SONIK CHAMBER #9 "the sonic chamber for sonic worship"

Batur Sonmez, who left his mark on Turkish electronic music in the last 20 years with his visionary works on behalf of contemporary experimental, electronic and noise music, ended his concert called "Signals From Outside" and "Noiseistanbul" series in 2016 which lasted for 10 years. In 2017, he launched a new concept, the experimental, electronic, noise, improvisational music series "Sonik Chamber". Sonik Chamber is based on its progressive and innovative music approach formed by electronic / experimental music pioneers such as Luigi Russolo, Pierre Schaeffer, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and İlhan Mimaroğlu.

In the 9th event of the series, drummer Ryosuke Kiyasu from Japan and Kerem Ergener from Istanbul are invited.

The night will begin with the solo performances of the musicians taking part, and all the musicians together will end up with the Sonik Chamber performance that gives the event its name.

RYOSUKE KIYASU:

In 1995, he started his career as a drummer and experienced live performances in various bands. In 2003 he moved to Toronto, Canada in order to gain experience as a drummer and began to play solo snare drum. Perform solo live mainly on the local jazz bar. Also, while living in Toronto, he started hardcore band THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE and worked as a drummer.From 2004 after returning to Japan, he started own punk band SETE STAR SEPT and free jazz band KIYASU ORCHESTRA, and has released numerous works and has performed various tours to countries around the world. in 2012, he is also working as a band of Keiji Haino, a drummer of FUSHITSUSHA. As a solo snare drummer, the countries that have performed in the past span the United States, Europe, Canada, SE Asia, Australia, Korea, China, Mongolia and Russia.

KEREM ERGENER:
Kerem Ergener is an electronic music composer and multi-media artist based in Istanbul. He founded a record label called Le Horla Records that aims to bring out the Turkish underground music to the analog enthusiasts in August 2016. His works are included in numerous compilations. His first album "Ajirak" released under his synonym Le Horla that he uses for his experimental music works from Turkish label M4NM in January 2018. In September 2018 a compilation of his lost works has published under an album called "Selected Lost Works". He continues his studies in sonic arts at ITU MIAM (Istanbul Technical University (Centre for Advance Studies in Music).

BATUR SÖNMEZ:
His work in contemporary music and art has started in 1998. Sönmez's output on experimental, electronic, industrial and noise music is well-known worldwide and he's included in many festival and concerts from Japan to Spain, Russia to Lebanon. Sönmez is also known for his works in multi-media, visual-auditory sound and audio art. He is one of the curators for "An Anthology of Turkish Experimental Music" released in 2016 from Belgian record label Sub Rosa.
